Freddy Guevara: Today was a great victory, Venezuelans still facing repression

Communications by Voluntad Popular (Caracas, 04.19.17) From Avenue Paez of El Paraíso, national coordinator in charge of Voluntad Popular and first Vice President of the National Assembly, Representative Freddy Guevara, assured that in spite of repression, the venezuelan people are still marching, demanding the dismissal of the Magistrates of the Supreme Court (TSJ), the release of all political prisoners, the establishment of a humanitarian channel for food and medicine, and the immediate announcement of general elections to end the humanitarian crisis that the country is currently going through.

“I want the entire world to know that we have brothers in El Recreo, in San Bernardino, that the entire Francisco Fajardo highway is full of people! We are fighting for the dismissal of the magistrates of the TSJ (Supreme Tribunal), general elections, the freedom of all political prisoners, and the establishment of a humanitarian channel. They are not allowing the people to march, not us and not the group of venezuelans that they claim are the majority. We will continue on, despite the repression, peacefully facing this enormous military deployment from Nicolas Maduro. The fact that Venezuelans are out in the streets today despite the Zamora Plan, is a huge victory for all of us, and one more step towards the end of this dictatorship. So, strength and faith, Venezuela!”.

National Assembly representative Armando Armas, from the state of Anzoátegui, noted that the protest demands againt of Ombudsman Tareck William Saab to fulfill his duty so that the process to dismiss the magistrates of the Supreme Court continues.

“We are here with a huge gathering of people that only ask what they are entitled to, democracy and freedom. We are with hundreds of thousands of people that ask the Ombudsman to do his job, so that the Moral Power can declare the prevarication committed by the magistrates involved in the coup, and we, from the National Assembly, can dismiss them for what they have done, which was nothing more and nothing less than a coup. In this manner, we will have a magistrate that makes judicially viable decisions that open the way to the prosperity that Venezuela deserves”.

Additionally, he noted that the government of Nicolás Maduro is exposed, as thousands of Venezuelans march in these very moments in different points of the west side of Caracas. “Today, Nicolás Maduro’s regime was ridiculed, because today, April 19th, thousands of Venezuelans are here in the west side of Caracas demanding general elections and for our rights to be respected”.

In Leopoldo Lopez’ place, Antonieta Mendoza de López, expressed: “I see the image of Leopoldo Lopez, who has been resisting the regime’s abuses for three years, in each and every one of the Venezuelans who march in resistance today”.
